Today's vehicles paint jobs are becoming more and more complex and more and more expensive to repair. Minor damage such as key scratches, bumper scuffs etc. though quite noticeable were usually not repaired due to the cost. Advancements in training and specialty products have allowed this type of damage to be repaired quickly and with a high quality end result.

Some common questions asked about smart repair are: What type of damage can be fixed? How good will the finished product look? And how long will it last? The answer in part to all of these questions is in the quality of the products used and the use of proper technique. Basically if high quality products are used then a high quality repair that lasts a long time can result when used by a highly trained technician. That aside I will address each question.

What type of damage can be fixed by a smart repair technician?
Most often the type of damage a smart repair technician is asked to fix is in the scratch or scuff category such as key scratches bumper scuffs rust spots etc. Generally the damage is larger than can be reasonably touched up but that is contained to one or two panels of a car. Although a smart repair technician is not limited to this type of damage, larger scrapes and punctures in bumper covers can be repaired as well, smaller repairs are generally more profitable.

How good will the finished product look?
Today's smart repair technicians are armed with high quality products just like those used in body shops. Even though the technician is not in a controlled environment such as a paint booth, a body shop quality end result is attainable when repairing the type of damage mentioned above. If larger areas are repaired, some small imperfections may be noticeable but still within quality standards of the wholesale market. In some cases color match and blending of a smart repair technician can even be better than that some body shops due to the specialization of the technician and the fact that the color is being blended inside of a panel making it harder for the eye to compare.

How long will it last?
Proper techniques and products allow for a normal paint warranty to be given. Generally in the wholesale market a 1 year guarantee is commonplace and 1-2 years for retail. Warranties usually cover such things as peeling fading or excessive chipping.

I hope this answers the common questions asked concerning smart repair. Today's smart repair technicians are not just "touching up" cars but are highly trained technicians that understand the complexities of today's vehicles and are fulfilling a ever growing sector of the auto reconditioning market.
